1990s
The big part of the 1990s was the Human Genome Project. The goal was to identify all the genes in human DNA and determine their sequence. This way genetic conditions such as breast cancer could be detected early. During 1993, American physicians developed a way of detecting AIDS in newborns and young infants. Then lastly in 1998 the first human stem cell in grown in a lab.
Narrative
The Human Genome Project happened at this point in history because the technology was just getting advanced enough to get done what needed to be. There had been a goal to do this for many years but technology never allowed it to happen. AIDS is a disease that is still being researched. That is because there is no cure yet and they will not stop until there is one. It still effects so many people and medical research shows people that this topic is still cared about.
2000s
It was in 2007 that the first human genome was published of a single person. Also the hepatitis A vaccine was recommended for all children. Between 1908 and 1995 22,000-36,000 cases of hepatitis A were reported annually in the United States. In 1995 and 1996, the Food and Drug Administration licensed several inactivated hepatitis vaccines.
Narrative
The Human Genome Project succeeded! With the help of technology and some pressure of society their goal was met. Society always has expectations and for America it is to have top of the line medical equipment and to always be one step ahead of the game. This would not have been accomplished without the help of technology. To research advanced topics, advanced tools are needed. This is a huge step in the right direction. Now that doctors and scientist know the genome sequence they can determine what medical issues a person may have. It will have an effect on the future of medicine.
By 2007 there were just 2,979 reported cases of hepatitis A in the United States. If the vaccine was not recommended for all children then those numbers might not have gone down.
